Herring Cove and Race Point are the largest beaches in Provincetown. Herring Cove is unique, with more parking and better facilities than any beach on Cape Cod. There are two parking lots: the north parking lot, along the beach, features over 200 spaces, and the larger south lot has over 400 spaces. There are public restrooms and a snack bar run by Far Lands Provisions.

Herring Cove Beach is a wide beach with handicap-friendly mats over the sand that allow you to roll right up to the beach. This bay beach faces west and is a favorite spot for watching the sunset.

The waves are gentle here, which makes it great for children. However, the beach has rocky areas that can be tough on the feet.

The National Park Service does a great job of maintaining the facilities here. The parking lot, the stairs, the restrooms, and the bathhouse are in great shape.
